Epiretinal Membrane
Scar tissue over the macula can cause distortion of the central vision. This has many names, including epiretinal membrane, or cellophane maculopathy. If this is not affecting your vision, it can be monitored with an Amsler grid that can help you to identify warping or change in your central vision. However, if it begins to distort your central vision and affect your reading or vision, it may be time to peel the scar tissue / membrane in a surgical procedure called a membrane peel. Chronic visual changes may remain despite removal of the membrane, though the majority of patients report significant improvement.
We can assess your epiretinal membrane with imaging such as OCT and show you any progression. We are happy to discuss treatment options with you.
