Flashes and Floaters
It can be very scary to have symptoms such as floaters and flashes, as these can herald a retinal tear or detachment. We are here to reassure you if all is well, and to diagnose and treat any tears or detachments we find.
What are the symptoms of a retinal detachment?
Flashes of light like someone is taking your picture
Many new floaters all at once
A curtain or blurry section of your vision
No Pain - retinal detachments are not painful!
Tears in the retina can lead to retinal detachments that can cause vision loss. Depending on what we find in your eyes on examination, we may choose to observe or treat. Preventive laser treatment can help you avoid surgery and seal any tears in your eye. However, surgical interventions are are necessary once the retina has detached.
