Macular Hole or Pucker
The center of the macula can develop a hole and cause loss of central vision. If there is fluid around the edges of the hole, we can occasionally treat you with eyedrops to attempt to close the hole. However, in most cases this process can only be repaired with surgical intervention, wherein the internal limiting membrane, a layer of the retina thinner than a human hair, is peeled in order to allow the hole to close. Chronic visual changes may remain despite closure of the hole, though many patients report significant improvement.
We can assess your macular hole with imaging such as OCT and show you any progression. We are happy to discuss treatment options with you.
